Overview of the specialization

Urology Department

Urology is a surgical subspecialty for the treatment of surgical and medical diseases of the urinary tract in male and female patients, as well as male reproductive issues.

Our vision is to provide advanced, high-quality, patient-centered healthcare following international patient care standards in Jordan and for international tertiary referral cases, led by a dedicated team of resident doctors and consultant fellows.

We are pioneers in Jordan in providing minimally invasive surgery for stones, kidney transplantation, general endoscopic procedures, and advanced oncological procedures.

Our faculty members have a high level of expertise based on globally recognized accredited training in various specialties of general urology, urological medicine, and advanced endoscopic oncological procedures.

Our urology unit is excellently equipped with all urological and abdominal endoscopic devices, allowing for all types of surgeries, such as radical prostatectomy, partial and radical nephrectomy, hernia repair, adrenalectomy, and other surgical and endoscopic procedures. Our goal is to have a modern unit to satisfy highly trained senior urologists and handle the most challenging cases from Jordan and surrounding Arab countries.

Diseases Treated by the Department

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia, which occurs in males over 50, causing bothersome symptoms.
  • Prostate cancer, the most common cancer among older males. It can be treated if diagnosed early.
  • Bladder cancer, one of the most common cancers, especially in males over 50, and more prevalent among smokers.
  • Kidney cancer, with most kidney tumors detected incidentally at a very early stage using modern imaging devices, treated with excellent results.

Advanced Treatment Methods

  • Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) – breaks down urinary tract stones without surgical intervention.
  • Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy – kidney stones are broken down and removed through a 1 cm incision in the back.
  • Ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy – treating kidney and ureteral stones without incision.
  • Sexual dysfunction issues – patient evaluation and optimal treatment selection; penile prosthesis implantation is a common safe procedure.
  • Peyronie’s disease – penile curvature, pain, and dysfunction in males over 50, treated with excellent results.
