Medical Education Center

Overview of the specialization

Jordan Hospital was established in 1996 through the constructive efforts of a group of distinguished colleague doctors, each excelling in their field, as a general hospital that brings together all general and specialized departments to serve as a nucleus and model for distinguished teamwork in the private sector for patient care in Jordan and the Arab region.

It became clear to the hospital’s board of directors at that time that an educational dimension needed to be added, especially in light of changes in our region that prevented our children and recent medical graduates from traveling abroad for further training due to special circumstances in European and American countries following the events of September 11, New York attacks. The board’s vision was clear and correct in adding the educational dimension to this distinguished medical institution.

Since 1998, the hospital administration has worked on linking educational programs with the Jordanian Faculty of Medicine for two years through an integration agreement with the University of Jordan, through which medical students and resident doctors in all specialties are trained at Jordan Hospital. This was the first experience of the University of Jordan opening up to the private sector. It was indeed a pioneering experience that gave the hospital’s educational mission a strong push for the future, increasing awareness of the importance of its educational role locally.

After the University of Jordan terminated this agreement in 2000 due to its own special circumstances, and in recognition of the importance and duties of this medical institution, the Center for Continuing Medical Education was established at the hospital to undertake the task of initiating and developing all educational programs in coordination with both the Arab Board for Health Specializations and the Jordan Medical Council. This was to develop residency and training programs in the four main specialties (general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology), followed by training in subspecialties for both internal medicine and surgery.

Indeed, the center was a pioneer, and its residency programs were recognized as detailed in each department’s files.

The board of directors set a strategic vision and mission to advance medical education and training to make the center a hub for excellence and high-level medical services at both local and regional levels.

The number of graduates from all specialties reached 445 (227 Jordanians) and (218) from sisterly Arab countries (Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, Syria). The hospital currently has 300-350 beds, with all major and subspecialty medical departments available.
